Alia Bhatt's mother Soni Razdan has paid a high compliment to her and Deepika Padukone and made an interesting claim about the season six premiere episode of Koffee With Karan which aired on Sunday night.
Soni Razdan has said that the two Bollywood stars were 'the best ever', in a comment on a photo of Alia and Deepika sitting on the show's couch that Alia had posted on her Instagram. Razdan's comment Is: "You both were the best evaa" with two heart-eyed emoji.
While there are a number of ways to interpret the comment, including the case that it's just a perfunctory and unqualified 'you guys are the best' kind of thing to say, the more logical conclusion is that Soni Razdan has ranked them top on the list of guest combinations to grace Karan Johar's show.
If that is indeed what she meant, one can see where she's coming from. There have been some great Koffee With Karan episodes in the past, that leverage two aspects -- that mixing-and-matching these different stars adds to the situational appeal, and that everyone seems to be more comfortable being asked and answering awkward and difficult questions in Karan Johar's company.
On Sunday's show, there was an obvious X-factor -- that Deepika had announced earlier in the day that she and Ranveer Singh would be marrying on November 14 and 15. However, on account of the show having been taped earlier, Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt could only speculate, which, to be fair, they did with abandon.
To add to this, Deepika Padukone's ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor is Alia Bhatt's current flame, and as a result, large parts of this episode contained references and revelations that answer years-worth of questions about their love-lives, not limited to 'how long Deepika and Ranveer have been dating (six), whether it was awkward when Alia-Ranbir-Deepika-Ranveer all met in their current dating configurations (apparently not), what does Karan Johar message Ranveer Singh (stuff he doesn't want Deepika to see, at the very least), what's the deal with Ranbir (that he's unaffected, apparently), who is likeliest to pick up the phone when Alia Bhatt calls (Sonakshi Sinha), and more.
Still, even more than the revelations, the most remarkable feature was how coolly they conducted themselves, the maturity with which they addressed (most of) the awkwardness, and the frequency with which they pulled each other's leg (including the host).
So, was the Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone guest combination the best? What's your view? Let us know in the comments section below.
