Stree 2 Director Amar Kaushik Unaffected By CBFC Modifying Neha Kakkar Joke: Logon Ko Samjh Aa...
Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik has reacted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) modifying Neha Kakkar's name in the movie and said he was surprised.
Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is making waves at the box office. The movie has beaten the lifetime record of Hrithik Roshan starrer Fighter and minted ₹275.35 crore in India. Amid the success of the movie, director Amar Kaushik reacted to the viral dialogue by mentioning Neha Kakkar's name which was changed to Sneha Kakkar. In a recent interview, he shared that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had asked him to change the name.
We thought they had a valid point: Amar Kaushik
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the director was asked if it was a downer when the CBFC asked him to change the name, to this, he replied "Not really. The CBFC members pointed that aise jokes se bura lag sakta hai. We thought they had a valid point and hence, didn’t request them to let us retain the dialogue. Anyway, logon toh samaj mein aa gaya.”
The director explained that when a person writes comedy they end up having such jokes. "Like when you are sitting with friends, you would pass such comments. That’s where the fun happens," he continued. The director added that he and writer Niren Bhatt intended that the way people get humour in their lives, they wanted to follow it. "We don’t put gags. Humko ‘gag’ word se hi nafrat hai! When someone says ‘Ek gag daal dete hai’, I am like ‘Nahin chahiye mujhe gag’. Gag is akin to puking for me!” he added.
CBFC members that we met this time were intelligent: Amar Kaushik
In the same conversation, he shared that the CBFC members he met were "intelligent" and "sensible". The makers were prepared for several cuts in the movie, but when they explained their point of view regarding the Neha Kakkar joke, members understood that it would affect the narrative. So they didn't censor the dialogue and just changed the name. "They told us, ‘Yes, yeh dialogue mein problem hai but if we cut it, it’ll affect the narrative and we know you added it for so-and-so reason. Hence, we won’t censor it. I was surprised. We were prepared that a lot of dialogues will get cut," he concluded.
