Stree 2 Director Says 'Not Everything Revolves Around Stars' As Internet Laps Up Akshay Kumar Cameo

Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has beaten Hrithik Roshan starrer Fighter’s lifetime business in just five days. The movie has surpassed Rs 200 crore at the box office in India. Reacting to the success of the movie, director Amar Kaushik opened up about how he delivered a box office hit. He said that he didn’t rely on big stars and stressed the importance of storytelling.

In an interview with Connect Cine, Amar shared how he was able to give a blockbuster movie. The director stated that he doesn’t chase after a star and doesn’t build a story around them. Instead, he first crafted the story and then cast the actors for it. “I remember feeling the same way as the audience five years ago, thinking, ‘Where is the story?’ Everything revolved around the star, and I didn’t enjoy that. The audience is smart—they know what you’re trying to sell them. We need to create films that connect with them,” he continued.

The director further said he is serving the audience and wants them to leave the theatre entertained. “You can’t deny the value of a star, but not everything should revolve around them. You need to create a star with your team, not just rely on a single person,” he added.

Movie buffs are going gaga over Akshay Kumar’s cameo in the movie. He plays the descendant of Sarkata. During the same conversation, Amar revealed that he approached the actor for the cameo while they were working on Sky Force. He shared that after he narrated the scene, Akshay readily agreed.

He further said that Akshay “really enjoyed” on the set and wanted multiple versions of the same scene. He gave multiple takes. “I was just seeing his energy and enjoying it so much. I put Abhishek in the scene and told him to do bindas acting with him, and the way it came out, we even fell laughing on the set. It was also an improvised scene. So, I was making Abhishek sit on the inside but Akshay sir added the line, ‘ come sit on my lap,’ in response, Abhishek added the Covid line. The script was hilarious but the way they acted…that’s how you make a scene beautiful,” he concluded.
