Stree 2 vs Khel Khel Mein vs Vedaa Box Office: The Independence Day holiday is one of the most sought-after days for all movie releases. This year, viewers will be spoilt for choice as not one but three big releases have lined up for August 15. Ahead of Stree 2, Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa's release, experts predict which film will lead the box office juggernaut.

Stree 2 will crush Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein in this clash of titans', say trade experts

In an exclusive conversation with Republic Digital, several trade experts have agreed that Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2 will march way ahead of the other two releases on August 15. A sequel to the 2018 horror-comedy, the film has already raked in a staggering ₹14.58 Crore in advance booking collections as per Sacnilk. The movie will hit the big screens on the night of August as a part of paid previews which will add to its box office collections.

As per trade analyst Sumit Kadel, the Shraddha Kapoor starrer will open to ‘earth-shattering’ numbers. He said, “Stree 2 is leading the advance sale by a huge margin. The film will have an earth-shattering opening across India, I am expecting a Day 1 collection in the range of ₹ 35-40 cr nett inc previews biz and a 4 days weekend of approx100- 120 cr.”

Taran Adarsh seemed to echo the same sentiment and told us, “It is clear that Stree 2 will dominate at the box office among the other releases. Stree 2 is going to open to a humongous response across the country. This film is going to surprise and shock a lot of people in a good way. Surprise because to collect that kind of numbers is going to be very good for the industry. Shock because it is released alongside two A-list heroes, and to collect higher than them is going to be a shocker for many."

Predicting the opening day collection, he shared that it shouldn't come as a surprise if the horror comedy collects ₹35-40 crore on day 1.

Vedaa, Khel Khel Mein to compete for number 2 spot

While Stree 2 remains the undisputed leader of the box office this Independence Day, the tussle between John Abraham's Vedaa and Akshay Kumar starrer ensemble movie Khel Khel Mein will hog the limelight. With limited promotions and relatively lower buzz, it would be interesting to see which of the two movies fares better. Kadel says, “Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa both seem to be struggling with advance sales and shows allotment, both films could open in the range of 4-7 cr nett, their weekend biz will depend on audience word of mouth.” Taran Adarsh predicted a day 1 collection “between ₹5-7 crore” for both the movies. Several media reports have also claimed that the screen allotment of the two films has been lower than Stree 2 which will further act as a deterrent to their business.

The Independence Day clash will ‘make a bit of a dent in the business of all the films,' as per experts

While the box office clash amid the films has become a talking point, some trade analysts believe that it will become a hurdle for all movies. Akshaye Rathi argues, “I truly feel that all of them (the films) have the ability to coexist simultaneously at the box office. But what's gonna be bothersome is the ability to optimise. They are showcasing and programming in cinemas, especially in a country like India, which is already under-screened. And that may really make a bit of a dent in the business of all the films because none of them would get the optimal showcasing that they otherwise deserved. So here is hoping that all the three films can coexist can do where you can find their audience.”

Despite the box office showdown, the Independence Day extended weekend is expected to be a delight in the otherwise gloomy times faced by Bollywood releases in the first half of the year. Trade analysts and exhibitors are hopeful that the release of Stree 2, Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein would bring in good returns in business.
