A perfect choreographed song is a result of all the efforts which are put in by a choreographer and the director takes a back seat then. Choreographers often take up big challenges by experimenting with themselves during the filming of a song and pass through it with flying colours. Here is a list of top five choreographers who turned into directors.
Prabhudeva
Prabudeva started his career as a choreographer in the film industry. He is one of the most celebrated dancers in the country. He tried his hands into the direction and tasted success with the 2009 Action film Wanted which featured Salman Khan in the leading role of a cop. He, later on, directed many blockbusters for Hindi as well as Tamil cinema.
Farah Khan
Farah Khan is one of the most successful female choreographers in the film industry. She has choreographed more than 100 songs. She is also a recipient of a National award for Best Choreography. Farah decided to step into direction with the super-hit 2004 action-drama movie Main Hoon Na. The film features Shah Rukh Khan in a leading role and was a blockbuster.
Remo D’Souza
Remo began his career as a director with the 2011 comedy film F.A.L.T.U and received huge appreciation for the film. He also made India’s first 3D dance movie ABCD with the contestants of a dance reality show, Dance India Dance. He is widely admired for his jaw-dropping dance moves.
Ahmed Khan
Ahmed Khan has received several awards as a choreographer for movies like Rangeela, Kick, Heropanti, and many more. He started his career as a director with 2004 drama film Lakeer – Forbidden Lines and went on to give one of the highest-grossing films, Baaghi 2 in the year 2018. The movie features Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani in lead roles.
Ganesh Acharya
Ganesh Acharya started his career as a choreographer in the year 1992. He is one of the most popular choreographers and has also won a National Award for Best Choreography at the 61st National Film Awards. He tried his hand into direction with 2007 Hindi drama film Swami. The film received critical acclaim.
