Notre-Dame is a medieval Catholic cathedral in the heart of Paris and is considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. Its construction began in 1160 and was largely complete by 1260. In the 1790s, the religious monument suffered desecration during the French Revolution, and 14 years later witnessed Napoleon I's coronation as Emperor of France. The fire has been reportedly taken under control and declared fully extinguished in about 15 hours. French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed the restoration of the historic building.
