World Mental Health Day: Here's Alia Bhatt message for sister Shaheen
On World Mental Health Day, Alia Bhatt cheered for sister Shaheen Bhatt as she launched a special initiative to battle stigma relating to mental illness.
On October 10, every year, the world observes Mental Health Day in order to raise awareness about the same. This year, several Bollywood stars and eminent celebrities joined the global initiative to address the issue. Joining the bandwagon was actress Alia Bhatt who took to social media and cheered for sister Shaheen Bhatt as she launched a special initiative to battle stigma relating to mental illness.
Shaheen Bhatt who has been quite vocal about her poor mental health conditions, penned a long note on Thuesday, sharing her ordeal with depression. She also announced a special initiative called 'Here Comes The Sun' which she revealed aims at encouraging conversations around depression and anxiety. Talking about her prolong struggle with depression in a social media post, Shaheen Bhatt said that she felt it for the first time when she was twelve years old. She opened up about her insecurities and how she eventually learned to battle them.
Proud sister Alia Bhatt shared the post on Instagram and wrote: "I am so proud of you Shaheen and of Here Comes The Sun. You have taken something so personal and made it a symbol of strength and empathy." In her post, Alia talked about how she will extend her support throughout and added, "No one needs to be alone as they struggle with mental health, battling their own fears and anxiety. Sometimes all you need to know that you're not alone. I'm here 100%..... To start the conversation, to raise awareness and to join you on this journey, every step of the way."

World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day, which is observed every year on October 10, aims to educate and raise awareness about mental health issues. It also fights the social stigma relating to the same. As per media reports, World Mental Health Day was first observed in 1992 and was initiated by the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
World Mental Health Day is supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which raises awareness on mental health issues using its strong relationships with the Ministries of health and civil society organizations across the globe. This day, every year, thousands of supporters come out to celebrate this annual awareness program and bring attention to mental illness. It discusses the major effects of mental illness on peoples' life worldwide.
What's next for Alia Bhatt
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Alia Bhatt has a number of films in the pipeline for release. The actress who last appeared in Karan Johar's Kalank is all set to star in father Mahesh Bhatt's directorial venture Sadak 2. Alia Bhatt will be starring alongside sister Pooja Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sanjay Dutt in the upcoming venture. On the other hand, Alia Bhatt has also been gearing up for the release of Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. Both the films are set for 2020 release.
