Anant-Radhika Wedding Festivities Begin With Mameru Ceremony: Know All About The Gujarati Tradition

Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are all set to tie the knot between July 12-14. The wedding festivities of the couple began with a mameru ceremony held in Mumbai today. The families and close friends of both the bride and groom arrived at Anant’s residence Antilla for the pre-wedding ritual. Several photos and videos from the ceremony are now doing rounds on social media. 

What is the Mameru ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant taking place today? 

The extravagant wedding ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant commenced with a Mameru ceremony. The traditional Gujarati ceremony was attended by the close family members of both the bride and groom. Anant’s older brother Akash along with his wife Shloka and their children were in attendance at the event. His sister Isha Ambani along with her husband Anand Piramal attended too. 

Also known as Mosaalu, the ‘Mameru’ ceremony is a traditional Gujarati practice that takes prior to the wedding day. In this ceremony, the maternal uncle of the bride (fondly called mama) visits her and gives sweets and gifts like sarees, jewellery and other clothes. As a part of the ceremony, the newlyweds traditionally touch the feet of the bride’s uncle and aunt and seek their blessings. Bride-to-be Radhika Merchant arrived for the ceremony fully dressed in a pink bandhani lehenga teamed with matching accessories. She posed with her family members for the ceremony.

Bollywood celebrities are one of the regular attendees of all Ambani events. For the pre-wedding festivities too, the latest couple Jhanvi Kapoor and Shikhar Pahariya marked their attendance. The duo dressed up in ethnic attires as they partook in the ceremony held at Antilla. 

Janhvi and Shikhar were accompanied by their friend Orry. Janhvi shares a special bond with the bride-to-be Radhika Merchant and has attended all of the couple’s pre-wedding festivities till now. Janhvi arrived for the ceremony in a traditional bandhani lehenga. She teamed the look with a contrast sleeveless blouse. 

The grand wedding festivities are meticulously planned, adhering to traditional Hindu Vedic customs. The main ceremonies will commence on Friday, July 12, with the auspicious Shubh Vivah, or wedding function and according to sources, guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the occasion by dressing in traditional Indian attire. The celebrations will continue on Saturday, July 13, with Shubh Aashirwad. The final event, Mangal Utsav or the wedding reception, is scheduled for Sunday, July 14.
