Media Mogul Ramoji Rao Dies At 87, PM Modi Expresses Condolence
Media Baron Ramoji Rao, founder of Ramoji Group, was rushed to hospital on June 5 after suffering from high blood pressure and breathlessness.

Ramoji Rao, chairman of the Eenadu media group and founder of Ramoji Film City, died early Saturday (June 8) in Hyderabad, Telangana. Rao, 87, was reportedly undergoing treatment at Star Hospital after he suffered from high blood pressure and breathlessness on June 5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader G Kishan Reddy condoled his death on social media.
PM Modi pays tribute to Ramoji Rao
“He was being treated with ventilator support and was in a critical condition. He breathed his last at Star Hospitals at Nanakramguda at around 4.50 am. His body is being taken to his residence in the Ramoji Film City on the outskirts of Hyderabad in a while,” a family member said reported ETV. Rao was born on November 16, 1836. He launched Eenadu, a leading Telugu language daily newspaper, in 1974. He is also recognised for being the founder of the Ramoji Group, which owns the famous integrated production facility in Hyderabad.
Following his death, PM Modi paid tribute to the media mogul and wrote a long note expressing his sadness. He shared a photo of himself with Rao and wrote, "The passing away of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu is extremely saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionised Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films. Through his noteworthy efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world."
He concluded his note by writing, "Ramoji Rao Garu was extremely passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have got several opportunities to interact with him and benefit from his wisdom. Condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers during this difficult time. Om Shanti."
BJP leader G Kishan Reddy also paid tribute to Rao on his X handle. He shared a photo of Rao and wrote, "Saddened by the passing of Shri Ramoji Rao garu. His remarkable contributions to Telugu media and journalism is commendable. My deepest condolences to his family members. Om Shanti."
Jr NTR also shared a heartfel post on X in Telugu which we loosely translated to English.The actor wrote that he will never forget the memories when he was introduced to the Telugu film industry with Ninnu Chhadalani. “Visionaries like Sri Ramoji Rao are one in a million. A media tycoon and a giant of Indian cinema, his absence is irreparable. The news that he is no longer with us is very sad. I will never forget the memories when I was introduced to the Telugu film industry with the film 'Ninnu Chhadalani'. May his soul rest in peace and convey my deepest condolences to his family,” he wrote.
What else do we know about Ramoji Rao?
In 2016, Rao received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in India, from then-President Pranab Mukherjee. His mortal remains have been shifted to his residence at the Film City.
