Music maestro AR Rahman on Saturday took to Twitter and extended solidarity with the ISRO scientists, after contact with the Chandrayaan 2's landing module was lost just 2.1 km above the lunar surface. In his tweet, AR Rahman stated that the nation stands with the ISRO scientists. 

Bollywood fraternity comes out in support

The entire nation extended support to ISRO scientists, after the setback in the Chandrayaan 2 mission on early Saturday morning. From Shah Rukh Khan to Akshay Kumar, Bollywood actors took to Twitter and hailed the efforts and hard work put in by the scientists at ISRO for the mission. Akshay Kumar said that he is proud and confident that Chandrayaan 2 will make way for Chandrayaan 3 soon and 'we will rise again'. Shah Rukh Khan offered words of encouragement to ISRO scientists and hailed them for their uncompromised effort.

PM Modi extends support to ISRO Chief K Sivan

Outside the ISRO monitoring centre, PM Narendra Modi consoled ISRO Chairman K Sivan after his speech after he got emotional over the Chandrayaan 2 mission's unsuccess. While departing from the Centre, K Sivan shook hands with PM Modi and exchanged a few words. However, he got emotional as PM Modi pulled him for a hug. Tears rolled down from Sivan's face as PM Modi held him in a tight embrace.

Addressing the scientists at the centre on Saturday morning, PM Modi asserted that there will be a "new dawn and better tomorrow", adding that the best is yet to come in the country's space programme. He stated that the nation is proud of the scientists and stands with them. 

"We came very close but we need to cover more ground in the times to come. Learning from today will make us stronger and better. The nation is proud of our space programme and scientists. The best is yet to come in our space programme. There are new frontiers to discover and new places to go. India is with you," Modi said.

Vikram Lander loses contact

Towards the final moments of the historic feat, just before it was about to land on the surface of the Moon, the mission suffered some technical glitches. As it stands, ISRO's Twitter handle stated that the centre lost communication at 3:00 am IST. Speaking about the situation, ISRO Chairman K Sivan confirmed that the contact with Vikram lander was lost at about 2.1 kilometres above the Moon's surface and added that the ground station is analysing the data. 

"Vikram lander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of 2.1 km. Subsequently, communication from the lander to ground stations was lost," said K Sivan from the ISRO Monitoring Centre.
