Although Amber Heard played Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, her part was reduced to barely 11 lines, one chuckle, and grunts in the new movie. She co-starred with Jason Momoa as the lead in the first Aquaman film. Even though she is now married to Arthur Curry's character and has given birth to their newborn, her role in the sequel has been reduced.

According to Business Insider, Heard only appears on camera for about 20 minutes or so and while she does talk in the film, it is just a measly 11 lines apparently.

According to the portal, Heard shows up for a few action sequences toward the beginning and the end, but she's largely removed from the main story. Even though she and Momoa's on-screen baby serves as a central plot point.

Amber Heard's role was chopped down in Aquaman 2

Instead of Amber taking centre stage, Momoa and Patrick Wilson end up teaming up and leading most of the film. Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Nicole Kidman are also in the mix. Not surprising that Heard was downplayed that was being telegraphed dating back to 2022, when she was on trial after Johnny Depp sued her.

Walter Hamada, former Warner Bros. head got grilled in a deposition, and explained that the studio decided to sideline her based on a lack of perceived chemistry between her and Momoa, and wanting a different story.

What does Amber Heard have to say about her less screen time in Aquaman 2?

In 2022, Heard claimed that her role as Mera in Aquaman 2 was "pared down" due to her then-ongoing legal battle against Johnny Depp. She testified in the court that she had to “fight really hard” to keep her career.

She continued, "I lost opportunities. I got dropped from jobs and campaigns." For Aquaman 2, she added that the studio Warner Bros. didn't want to include her and took a bunch out of her role.
