Broadway Star Marin Mazzie Passed Away At The Age Of 57

American actor and singer, Marin Joy Mazzie, passed away at the age of 57 suffering cancer. She took her last breath at her New York residence surrounded by friends and family.

American actor and singer, Marin Joy Mazzie, passed away at the age of 57 on Friday, 14 September, suffering from cancer. The renowned Broadway star was celebrated for her performance in the musical theatres. She breathed last at her New York residence surrounded by friends and family. Her publicist Kim Correro confirmed the news of her death and announced that the three-time Tony Award Nominee passed away at her Manhattan home peacefully at around 10:10 am.

Reportedly, Mazzie's husband Jason Danieley was with her during her last moments. Danieley, who was a Broadway actor, concert performer and recording artist, met Mazzie for the first time while they were performing together in Broadway's 'Trojan Women: A Love Story' in 1996. Later, the duo tied the knot and was seen performing together in several stage-shows. Moreover, the musical duo had also recorded an album 'Opposite You' that released in November 2005. Following Mazzie's death, Danieley released a statement revealing that his wife was struggling with cancer for the last three years. She was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in its fourth stage in May of 2015.

Mazzie, who was born at Rockford in Illinois, had a flair for acting since the very beginning. She graduated from the Western Michigan University in 1982 where she received degrees in theatre and music. The singer who started her journey as a church choir at the age of 8, moved to New York and made her stage debut in 1983 in Equity Library Theatre as she played the role of Kitty Verdun in the 1948 musical 'Where's Charley?'

The three-time Tony Award Nominee has been widely lauded for her acting and singing skills. Her most celebrated performances include 'Passion' (1994), 'Mother in Ragtime' (1998), and 'Kiss Me, Kate' (2000). In fact, the actress won a won the Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance in 'Kiss Me, Kate'. She was also a part of the American Theater Hall of Fame for 2017, the ceremony that was held at the Gershwin Theatre in November 2017. In addition to appearing in many musical stage productions,  Mazzie has also been featured in several concerts and television shows.
