Andre Braugher died on Monday and his representative revealed that he passed away after a brief illness at the age of 61. Now, the agent has confirmed that Andre died after battling lung cancer and he was diagnosed with the illness a few months earlier. Andre generally revealed little about his private life, and his death was unexpected for many of his co-stars. He told the New York Times in 2014 that he stopped smoking and drinking years ago.

Terry Crews, who played Terrence Jeffords, expressed his shock and deep sorrow, reminiscing about the eight years of friendship, laughter, and learning alongside Braugher. Crews hailed Braugher's irreplaceable talent and the wisdom he imparted, extending heartfelt condolences to the actor's family.

He wrote, "I can't believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you, and shared eight glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness, and your friendship. My deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest in peace, Andre. I love you, man. (sic)"

Chelsea Peretti, known for her role as Gina Linetti, shared a touching message, highlighting Braugher's multifaceted personality. She wrote, "Love you! I will miss your dulcet tones. I am forever lucky to have gone on such a journey with you. Ringside seat. You were so funny to me, and you were the epitome of still water running deep. I will always cherish our conversations, often with me hanging in your doorway, barring your exit, and the insane opportunity to be your sidekick. Is it weird that I am also grieving for what Captain Holt meant to Gina? I really hoped and knew I would see you again. I hate that I won’t. (sic)"

Melissa Fumero, who played the role of Amy Santiago in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine took to her Instagram account to share a series of pictures with Andre Baugher from the sets of the show. She shared the photos along with a note that read, "I love this first picture. The moment before that photo is Andre and me sitting on a little wooden deck over looking the ocean in Malibu."

She expressed her condolence for the departed’s family amd wrote, “My deepest condolences to Andre’s family, to Ami, to the boys, and to all his friends and loved ones. It was an honor to be in your orbit for a time, Sir. May you Rest in Peace my friend."

Beyond television, Braugher's career extended to the big screen, featuring in films such as Primal Fear, Get on the Bus, Frequency, and many more. Survived by his wife, actress Ami Brabson, sons Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley, brother Charles, and mother Sally, Braugher leaves behind a legacy of remarkable performances.
