It has been confirmed that Netflix will be producing a prequel to the 1974 Roman Polanksi classic, Chinatown. It was a mystery thriller film penned by Robert Towne. The film received high praise from critics at the time of its release and was nominated for 11 categories at the 47th Academy Awards. Read more to know about the supposed prequel of Chinatown.

Chinatown gets a prequel

It has been reportedly said that a prequel series to Chinatown is in the development phase. David Fincher, who is mostly known for his works like Fight Club, Se7en, The Social Network, and others, will be directing the prequel to the Jack Nicholson-starrer, Chinatown. He will be working with the film’s writer, Robert Towne on this project. It will apparently focus on the exploits of a young J.J. Gittes and will depict his early days as a private investigator. Netflix has not made an official comment yet on the subject.

About Chinatown and its sequel

Chinatown is a 1974 mystery thriller film which featured Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, and John Huston in the lead roles. The film was praised by critics and had received several awards. Towne, the writer of the movie, received the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. It is widely considered by critics and fans as one of the greatest films ever made. The movie got a sequel in the year 1990, which was called The Two Jakes. Jack Nicholson reprised his role and was also the director of the film. The movie featured Jack Nicholson, Harvey Keitel, and Meg Tilly in the lead roles. The movie revolved around the themes of adultery, murder, and blood money. The sequel did not receive as much appreciation as the original movie did. Fans are now stuck with mixed feelings about the new prequel to the film.
