Chris Hemsworth who entered the Marvel Universe as the mighty Thor has been slated yet again to reprise his role and star as the lead in the upcoming movie, Thor: Love and Thunder confirmed the movie's director Taika Waititi. Earlier, it was announced that Natalie Portman, who plays scientist Jane Foster in the franchise, is set to return and get to adapt a version of the Lady Thor arc in the new film at July's San Diego Comic-Con. The film will be based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run. This movie marks the fourth instalment in the Thor franchise.

Taika Waititi on Thor: Love and Thunder

While talking to an entertainment news channel at the Toronto International Film Festival, Taika Waititi remained quite reserved about details about the movie. Yet, he made two revelations; firstly that he was on the seventh page of the script and secondly, that he had decided to cast Chris yet again. To clarify the movie's lead, Taika Waititi explained that it is pretty clear from the movie's storyline and title that it is Thor. This implies that Chris Hemsworth continues to lead the franchise, even though he’s not going to be the only character that will be called Thor anymore.

"It's Chris. It's a Thor film. He is Thor, it's a Thor film. She's (Portman) in it,"  Taika said.

Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Lady Thor Arc

Apparently Natalie had been unhappy since director Patty Jenkins was dismissed from Thor: The Dark World. Following this, she did not return to Thor: Ragnarok in spite of the previous two films setting up her romance with Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder as a major plot point. Later, when Taika Waititi thought of introducing Jane Foster aka Natalie as the second lead, she agreed to join the cast again. It was a pretty big deal to think of such a plot for Waititi. When he read Jason Aaron’s run on Thor, he revived the plot by giving supernatural power to Jane. Actress Tessa Thompson will play the role of Valkyrie in the movie.

Film experts speculate that Natalie as Jane and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will both have substantial parts to play in the Chris Hemsworth-led movie.
