The 'Mean Girls' meme featuring Iranian leaders
Posted on the Mean Girls Day, the image features the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasarallah and Iranian Army Chief Qasem Soleimani photoshopped with the background of a Mean Girls scene. The post has a caption which says that there is no one meaner than the mean girls of the Middle East(referring to the Iranis in the frame). Along with the meme, they added two hashtags, #DontSitWithThem and #MeanGirlsDay. The hashtag #DontSitWithThem refers to a part in the movie when the mean girl leader Regina, is straight away booted from their lunch table for wearing sweatpants on a Monday, a rule she had come up with and applied. The tweet received 1.2K Likes, 277 retweets and around 150 comments ever since it was posted.
The tweet by Israel received a mixed response from internet users. A user criticizing the tweet wrote that the tweet is trying to be funny but is not, it is rather sexism along with stupidity. He further adds that there are other ways to insult these leaders than equating them to girls. Another user wrote that is the best tweet of all time. Another user slammed those criticizing the tweet saying that the tweet is not sexist as the movie itself represents female agents of patriarchy and oppression.
I see that they’re trying to be “funny” but come on now. This is sexism mixed with stupidity ... par excellence

There are so many ways to insult these buffoons without trying to call them “girls” or “mean girls”.
Pathetic, lame & sexist tweet
This was the best tweet of all time

Folks saying that this tweet is sexist, the "mean girls" in the movie represent female agents of patriarchy and oppression.

Obviously.
It's like saying "Auntie Qasim Soleimani" from Handmaid's Tale.
You can't just say it's sexist by changing the whole meaning of the movie.
Israel's 2018 'Mean Girls' meme video
In the year 2018, Israel once again used Mean Girls meme to troll Iran over a tweet that attacked it. The Iranian leader Khamenei(account unverified) wrote against Israel on twitter many times in the past. A tweet by the account on June 3, 2018, called Israel a malignant cancerous tumour in the West Asian region. Israel posted a meme video of actress Rachel McAdams who plays Regina George in the film. The video has Rachel's Regina saying "why are you so obsessed with me?". The tweet by Israel got over 28.4K retweets and 91.1K likes.
