Though the film is a part of the DC Comics universe, Batman or any other caped crusaders have not featured in it. Todd Phillips revealed that Phoenix would sometimes walkout from the set in the middle of a scene while shooting for ‘Joker’. He also said that they had several creative but fruitful differences over the character. "In the middle of the scene, he'll just walk away and walk out. And the poor other actor thinks it's them and it was never them, it was always him, and he just wasn't feeling it," he told an American newspaper.
