Kumail Nanjiani might be the new entry for Marvel's 'The Eternals' along with Angelina Jolie

Kumail Nanjiani, the Pakistani-American stand-up comedian and Oscar nominee, is reportedly in negotiations to join Angelina Jolie in Marvel's 'The Eternals,' one of the two features that Marvel is preparing to later this year. 

While details about the movie and cast are still under wraps, the movie is going to be based on the characters in 'The Eternals' that were created by Jack Kirby in 1976. They are super-powered and near-immortal species who are an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created a-perceptive life on Earth. More dangerous offshoots are the Deviants that were created by cosmic beings known as Celestials. 

Jolie is understood to be playing the character of 'Sersi,' who is a more outgoing Eternal - undaunted to move amongst human beings. Chloe Zhao is the director of this superhero adventure project. The heroes were polished in the 2000s by author Neil Gaiman.

While details of Nanjiani's character are not out yet, the actor who plays geek coder Dinesh in HBO's 'Silicon Valley' and has also earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing 'The Big Sick' with his wife Emily Gordon, is evidently occupied with some amazing projects at the moment. He has starred in the first 'Twilight Zone' episode from CBS All-Access and executive producer Jordan Peele on TV. On the movie front, he will be also been in Sony's 'Men in Black: International' which is expected to release on June 14. That's not it. Another exciting project that he will soon embark on is 'The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle' with Rami Malek.

Another important comic character that people are more familiar with - the nemesis of the Avengers -  Thanos, is, in fact, an Eternal, as the origin story in the comics explains so. Essentially created through genetic experimentations by the Celestials, Eternals have been shown in some current MCU's films, like Benicio Del Toro's 'The Collector' who has appeared in Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Infinity War.

Marvel hasn't yet confirmed either Nanjiani's or Jolie's casting, nonetheless, talks are allegedly in full swing. If finalised 'The Eternals' would mark their first foray into the superhero franchise.
