Madame Web trailer: Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney lead live-action spinoff in Spider-Man multiverse

Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney's Madame Web adds itself to the list of titles in Marvel's lineup in their consecrated effort to expand the Spider-Verse.

The makers of Madame Web have released the first trailer for arguably one of the most-awaited Spider-Man spinoff films. Dakota Johnson and Euphoria fame Sydney Sweeney lead the pack Cassandra Web and Julia Carpenter respectively as Marvel officially further expands the Spider-Man multiverse.

Madame Web sees Dakota Johnson step into the role of Cassandra Webb, a clairvoyant who prefers to be called Madame Web. Her psychic abilities enables her vision to look into the spider universe. Sydney Sweeney on the other hand essays the role of Julia Carpenter - which according to the comic books is the character that goes on to become Spider-Woman.

Besides Johnson and Sweeney, the film also stars Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps and Zosia Mamet. The film has been directed by SJ Clarkson, who also helmed Marvel's Jessica Jones. Matt Sazama, Kerem Sazama and Burk Sharpless have written the screenplay for the film with  Adam Merims stepping in as executive producer. Madame Web happens to be Sony's first comic book adaptation that features a leading woman.

Marvel appears enthusiastic about expanding the Spider-Verse


The Spider-Verse is growing. Following the success of animated release Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Marvel appears to be taking consecrated efforts to expand the Spider-Verse. Madame Web, which is eyeing a February release next year, will be following three other big banner releases which has fared well for Marvel studios. Madame Web comes post the release of Tom Hardy led Venom which released in 2018, Venom: Let There Be Carnage which released in 2021 and Jared Leto’s Morbius which released last year.

A third Venom movie is also in the works, eyeing a November 8 2024 release. Also in the lineup is Kraven the Hunter which will release on August 30 next year followed by El Muerto and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Madame Web will be hitting theatres on February 16.
