The Irishman- What to know
"The Irishman" follows the story of Frank Sheeran (De Niro), a mob hitman and World War II veteran who develops his skills during his service in Italy.
"Now an old man, he reflects on the events that defined his career as a hitman, particularly the role he played in the disappearance of labour leader Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino), his longtime friend, and his involvement with the Bufalino crime family," reads the official plotline of the film.
It is being reported that Netflix was previously mulling a wide theatrical release for the film, mainly because of the involvement of names like Scorsese, De Niro and Pacino. But there is no clarity on this. Netflix is yet to announce the number of theatres in which the film will be screened. "The Irishman" will have its world premiere as the opening film at the New York Film Festival on September 27.
