DC Studios co-head James Gunn has finally announced the DC slate for the coming “8 to 10 years” that fans have eagerly anticipated since December 2022. The Suicide Squad director posted a video on social media, where he detailed the upcoming projects planned for the DC Universe. James Gunn revealed a combination of live-action TV series, films and animated projects, which he added are all part of the main continuity.
Taking to Twitter, James Gunn said that the first chapter of the DCU reboot is called “Gods and Monsters”. He added that the projects he’s announcing are part of the first chapter, but not all of the projects within it.
Gunn started the video by saying Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the upcoming March 17, 2023 film, will connect directly with The Flash. Adding that The Flash will reset the whole DCU, Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom will be the subsequent entry connected to what’s coming next.

Full list of newly announced projects, as announced and described by James Gunn
Creature Commandos - Animated series
It’s an animated series with a runtime of seven episodes written by James Gunn. Originally an assembly of heroes tasked with fighting the Nazis, this series will add a modern lens to the story. Gunn has stated that the cast of voice actors will consist of those who can also play them in a live-action setting.
Waller - Live-action TV/HBO Max series
A spin-off to the series Peacemaker, Waller will focus on the character of Amanda Waller and her morally ambiguous methods within the DCU. Viola Davis will return as the titular character. Watchmen’s Christal Henry and Doom Patrol’s Jeremy Carver are collaborating on the project.
Superman: Legacy - Live-action film
Gunn’s own writing project, Gunn said that “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth justice and the American way. He is kind in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned.” He further added that the film is set for a July 11, 2025 release.
Lanterns - Live-action TV/HBO Max series
The live-action series will focus on Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart’s journey in the Earth-space sector. Gunn describes it as a “True Detective” kind of show, where the duo discovers a mystery that ties in with the larger story.
The Authority - Live-action film
Self-described by Gunn as a passion project, the film will bring superheroes from DC’s sister-company Wildstorm’s character into the main continuity.
Paradise Lost - Live-action TV/HBO Max series
The HBO Max series will focus on Wonder Woman’s birthplace Themyscira. Gunn describes it as a series similar to the likes of Game of Thrones.
The Brave and the Bold - Live-action film
The upcoming film will essentially pave the way for the Bat family into the main continuity, as per the DC Studios’ co-head. It will focus on Bruce Wayne and his son Damien Wayne.
The Batman 2 - Live-action film
Robert Pattinson’s Batman is set to return as the Dark Knight. However, projects such as Joker and The Batman will be in the “DC Elseworlds” category, existing outside of the main continuity, he added.
Booster Gold - Live-action TV/HBO Max series
Described by Gunn as “a loser from the future who uses basic future technology,” the series will focus on the cult-classic DC hero.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow - Live-action film
Taking the Tom King comic storyline and giving it a sci-fi twist, James Gunn said that the project will focus on a jaded version of Supergirl.
Swamp Thing
After the cancellation of the critically acclaimed DC series, the film will serve as a horror story that introduces fans to the Swamp Thing.
