'Red sparrow' ending explained: What happens with Dominika & Nate?

Released in 2018, Red Sparrow is a spy thriller film helmed by Francis Lawrence. Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton, movie is loosely based on 2013 vel of same name by author Jason Matws. As any good espion thriller, Red Sparrow also engs in quite interesting twists and turns in its narrative. climax of movie takes a 180-degree turn with a shocking finale scene.

'Red Sparrow' ending explained

premise of story revolves around life of a Russian intelligence officer Dominika (played by Jennifer Lawrence), who is sent to contact a CIA officer Nate Nash (played by Joel Edgerton) in hope of discovering identity of a mole who is passing secret intelligence information. While continuing ir mission Dominika meets to seduce Nate Nash who recognizes that she is a Russian intelligence operative and he attempted to convince her to defect.

After witnessing brutal murder of a fellow nt by her uncle Ivan who convinced her to be a part of ir mission, Dominika being scared for her life and that of her sick mor approaches Nate and agrees to be a double nt. During climax of film, when Dominika witnessed Nate being tortured by Marotin (Ivan’s man), he first pretends to assist him.

However, when he lets his guard down, Dominika kills Marotin but gets bly injured in process. She wakes in hospital where General Vlimir Korchi, a high-ranking official who works with Ivan, reveals himself as mole. He explained to her that he was initially patriotic but became disillusioned later after witnessing Russia’s corruption. He tells Dominika that he fears he will get caught soon and hence inste of dying in vain he wants her to expose his identity to Ivan.

However, he also wants her to continue his quest after his death and replace him as a mole to pass critical intelligence to CIA. However, Dominika decides to frame Ivan inste of General Vlimir. She contacts her superiors and fabricates him by producing false evidence. Ivan is killed and Dominika is houred in Russian military ceremony which is also attended by General Vlimir.

Back in Russia when Dominika lives with her mor, she receives a phone call from an unkwn person. person on call plays Grieg’s pia concerto, which she previously told Nate was first piece she danced too. phone call hinted that Dominika and Nate’s love story hasn’t ended and re’s more to it. director of movie has also reportedly been open to possibility of a sequel movie to Red Sparrow. However, sequel isn’t officially confirmed yet.
