Veteran actor Jerry Douglas from 'The Young and the Restless' passes away aged 88

Veteran actor Jerry Doughlas, who is popular for his role as patriarch John Abbott in the famous soap opera, The Young and the Restless, passed away at the age of 88 on November 9 in Los Angeles after a brief illness, reported the news agency, ANI. The actor logged nearly 900 episodes on The Young and the Restless show. Anthony Morina, the executive producer of the CBS daytime drama, confirmed Douglas' death in a statement obtained by USA Today.

Reportedly, no cause of death was given by the family. As per the report by USA Today, Anthony Morina said, "On behalf of the entire company of The Young and the Restless, we send our deepest sympathies to the Douglas family on the passing of Jerry Douglas."
Jerry Douglas had joined other cast members of The Young and the Restless in the month of March 1982 as the third actor - John Abbott, who is the wealthy founder and chairman of Jabot Cosmetics that's been running for over 25 years. When viewers first met the handsome character, he was a single father helping his children Jack, Ashley, and Traci navigate adulthood.
Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on November 12, 1932, Douglas launched his acting career after graduating from Brandeis University, studying acting with Uta Hagen in New York and Jeff Corey in Los Angeles. The actor has also appeared in numerous popular TV shows over the years, such as Cold Case, Melrose Place, The Rockford Files, Police Story, Arrested Development, Mission: Impossible, Barnaby Jones, The Incredible Hulk, and The FBI, among others.
Over the span of his decades-long career, Jerry Douglas has also been featured on the big screen with roles in films like JFK, Good Guys Wear Black, Avalanche, Mommie Dearest, Head Over Spurs in Love, Arrested Development, and The Godson. Apart from this, the actor has also acted in various theatre productions.
He recently rang his birthday early with his former castmates from The Young and the Restless. The late actor is survived by his 37-year-old wife, Kym Douglas, as well as his sons, Jod and Hunter, and daughter Avra, and two grandchildren; and nieces named Kirby Rubenstein and Solo Rubenstein.
