Kamal Haasan starrer Indian to be a trilogy? Here's what we know

Kamal Haasan has a busy month ahead with several significant releases like Indian 2 and Kalki 2898 AD lined up. Indian 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to the 1996 film of the same name. Now new reports have claimed that the film will not have one, but two sequels. Previously, the film’s producer Udhynidhi Stalin had also hinted at the sequel being in the works.

Indian 2 will see the collaboration between Kamal Haasan and director Shankar. The Tamil drama has been creating a strong buzz among fans. The movie is already in production and the actor often shares visuals from behind the scene of the film set with his followers. The film is bankrolled by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s banner in association with Lyca Productions.

In the film, Kamal Haasan is said to reprise his role from 27 years ago. He played the role of Senapathy who is a freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against crime and corruption. The movie also starred Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Gulshan Grover and others. 

Who’s saying what

While the sequel of the 1996 film is awaited reports of a third part of the film is also reported to be in the works. A source has told Pinkvilla, that part 2 and part 3 of the film are being simultaneously shot. It is also being said that the story itself led to the decision for the film to be released in two parts. 

Reports reveal that decision to split the film into two parts was taken at the edit table. It is also being said that Indian 2 is 100% shot and Indian 3 is also 75% shot. If the news is to believe, the two films will release in the same year, much like PS - 1 and PS - 2. More confirmation on the matter is awaited from the filmmakers.

Previously, the producer of the film Udhayanidhi Stalin had also addressed rumours of the movie being released as a trilogy. Talking to a Tamil news channel, the producer-turned-politician said, “We are thinking of doing Indian 3. But, they haven't decided on anything yet. The filmmakers have told me that they have a lot of footage. Kamal sir and Shankar sir are very happy.” He revealed that the thought came to the makers as there was a lot of extra footage left from the Indian shoot.
