Not just Kantara or KGF, these Kannada films also deserve your attention
If you loved watching Kannada films Kantara and KGF, here are a few other films from the state of Karnataka that you should watch.
Recently, Kannada films like Kantara and KGF have attracted people's attention for their larger-than-life approach and unique storytelling. These films have not just garnered praise in India, but also marked their presence on the global map. Both the films earned massively at the global box office. However, not many know that there are several other Kannada films that did wonders at the regional box office but didn't get their due beyond the state of Karnataka.
1. Love Mocktail:
Released in 2020, is a romantic and fun film about the protagonist Aadi's quest for love. Life takes him on a rollercoaster ride and goes through varied experiences at several stages throughout his search for true love. The film became one of the most successful films of 2020 and was even remade in Telugu - Gurthunda Seethakalam. The Kannada film also had a sequel in 2022. The film is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
2. U-Turn:
Written and directed by filmmaker Pawan Kumar, hit the screens in 2016. The film made on a budget of ₹2.5 crore went on to earn over ₹10 crore. The story revolves around a reporter who is on the hunt for the truth behind a strange murder after she crosses paths with a young cop and becomes the investigation's prime suspect. The film was so successful that it was later remade in 7 languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Sinhala, Filipino, Bengali, and Hindi. It was the first Indian film to be made in Filipino, 4th Kannada film to be remade in other South languages, and 2nd Kannada film to be remade in Sinhala. The film is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
3. Googly:
Starring KGF star Yash is a feel-good Kannada film, that revolves around a couple and tracks their journey right from their college days to late adolescence. The 2013 film, made on a budget of around ₹2 crore is said to have earned over ₹13 crore. It also stars Bollywood actor Kriti Kharbanda.
4. Just Math Mathalli:
The 2010 film stars Kichcha Sudeep and Ramya in the lead roles. The film too gained immense popularity for its storyline and songs. The film was both written and directed by the Eega actor. It's currently available on Disney Plus Hotstar.
5. Mungaru Male:
A film released in 2006, stars Kannada stars Ganesh and Pooja Gandhi in the lead roles. The film, another love story, was a blockbuster hit at the box office upon its release. Made on a budget of ₹70 lakh, the film earned around ₹70 crores. The film was later remade in Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Odia. The film's storyline and songs were highly praised. Later, in 2016, the film had its sequel. You can currently stream the film on Disney Plus Hotstar.
