Veteran Kannada actor Leelavathi dies aged 85 due to age related ailments
Leelavathi, who worked in over 600 films, including as many as 400 in Kannada, was living with her actor son Vinod Raj at Nelamangala for the past many years.
Eminent Kannada actor Leelavathi (85) who has worked in over 600 movies, including Tamil and Telugu, passed away at a private hospital in Nelamangala on the outskirts of Bengaluru city on Friday evening. Suffering from ailments related to old age, she was admitted to a private hospital where she breathed her last, sources said.
What do we know about Leelavathi?
Leelavathi, who worked in more than 600 films, including as many as 400 in Kannada, was living with her actor son Vinod Raj at Nelamangala for the past many years. Born as Leela Kiran in Belthangadi in Dakshina Kannada district, Leelavathi is remembered for her role in Bhakta Kumbara, Santha Thukaram, Bhatka Prahlada, Mangalya Yoga and Mana Mechchida Madadi. She has worked with Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar in several films.
When Shiva Rajkumar, Darshan, others visited Leelavathi
The veteran actress was ill for quite sometime. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, actors Arjun Sarja, Shiva Rajkumar, Abishek Ambareesh and Darshan among others visited the actress previously to check on her health. Ever since the news of the actress' death broke, her fans have flooded the social media with tributes for the OG star.
Among the 600 films that she has been a part of, a few memorable works of the actress include Nanda Deepa, Kulavadhu, Veerakesari, Sipayi Ramu, Gejje Pooje, Auto Raja and Premaloka. She was last seen in the 2009 film Yaaradhu along with her actor son Vinod Raj.
Leelavathi is also known for her kind heart and helping nature. The actress has constructed a primary health care centre in Nelamangala. She has also helped in the construction of a veterinary hospital among others.
