It's Controversial/ BTS' agency breaks silence on group’s involvement with ongoing drug scandal

Big Hit Music, BTS's agency, released a statement on Thursday emphasising that BTS is unrelated to any ongoing drug case.

Over the past few days, a lot has occurred in the Korean entertainment industry. The internet is rife with rumours, ranging from pop stars being arrested on suspected drug charges to conjectures about K-pop groups getting entangled in the current drug probe. In the midst of this, Big Hit Music, BTS's agency, released a statement emphasising that BTS is unrelated to any current rumours. 

Big Hit Music issues statement 

Big Hit Music released an official statement on Thursday denying BTS’ connection with the ongoing drug case. It read, “BTS is completely unconnected to the relevant rumour, and [the rumour] is not true in the slightest. We will take strong action against the indiscriminate circulation of rumours.”

Allkpop reported that rumours indicated BTS members frequently visited the same adult entertainment facility in Seoul, which is now under investigation by the authorities after reports of illegal drug use involving people like Sun Gyun Lee and BIGBANG’s G-Dragon. 

G-Dragon, Lee Sun Kyun’s drug case 

Actor Lee Sun Kyun of Parasite was found to be the subject of an investigation earlier this week on a drug usage case. After that, BIGBANG's G-Dragon was also booked by the police for drug use. The police assert that Sun-kyun and G-Dragon's cases are unrelated to one another and are being looked into independently.

Numerous well-known celebrities were also involved in the controversy, including Soyeon of (G)I-DLE and Kim Chaewon of LE SSERAFIM. However, reports of their drug usage have been refuted by respective labels. 

What's next for BTS? 

Talking about BTS’ work front, the group has renewed its contract with Big Hit Music beyond 2025. Additionally, In a recent interview with Bloomerang, HYBE chairman Bang Si Hyuk affirmed that the band will release their new album in 2025.

BTS members Jin, J-Hope, and SUGA are presently fulfilling their mandatory South Korean military duties. The company signed each member sequentially, taking into account their military service.  All seven members of BTS will complete their mandatory service over the next couple of years, with the group’s break for military service expected to last till 2025.
