The Guinness World Records has curated a retrospective of 2023's defining moments. These moments highlight extraordinary achievements from diverse spheres such as the world's oldest individuals, resilient premature babies, breathtaking stunts, and remarkable milestones in music. It was inevitable that K-pop, with its immense global impact, would rightfully claim a prominent position in this roster, notably honouring Lalisa Manobal (Lisa) and the acclaimed group Blackpink from South Korea.
Guinness World Records honour Lisa
Presently, Lisa has etched her name as the most significant soloist in K-pop history, securing an impressive tally of 8 Guinness World Records. This year, she made history as the inaugural K-pop artist recognised as a cultural icon in the revered "Asian Hall of Fame."
"2023 was a huge year for K-pop, kicking off with three records being set by BLACKPINK’s LISA in January. She became the First Solo K-pop winner at the MTV Video Music Awards and the First Solo K-pop winner at the MTV Europe Music Awards, as well as earning the record for Most Followers on Instagram for a K-pop Artist," stated Guinness World Records.

Meanwhile, Blackpink continues to blaze a trail, consistently breaking group records. Their recent triumph at the Billboard Music Awards, marking the first girl group victory in 18 years, and their tour, Born Pink, emerging as the highest-grossing tour by an Asian Act, solidify their status as groundbreaking icons within the K-pop landscape. The acknowledgment by the Guinness World Records stands as a testament to their unparalleled achievements and lasting impact in the music industry.
"But this was just the beginning of record-breaking activities in the K-pop world this year, with BLACKPINK becoming the most streamed female group on Spotify and then again BLACKPINK’s Lisa making history when “LALISA” became the First K-pop track by a Solo Artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify," stated Guinness World Records.
