K-pop sensation Jin carries the Olympic 2024 flame, marking a historic moment for BTS and cementing their status as global icons.
BTS' eldest member Jin made history today by carrying the Olympic flame through the streets of Paris. As the first torchbearer for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Jin proudly held the flame aloft as he walked through the iconic Louvre Museum. This was a special moment, as it was also France's national day, Bastille Day. With this, Jin became the first South Korean to receive this esteemed honour.
He flew to Paris on July 11 from Seoul. The flame, initially lit in Olympia, Greece on April 16, 2024, is set to arrive in Paris on July 26 for the Olympics' grand opening. Approximately 10,000 torchbearers, including Jin, are participating in the esteemed torch relay. It will cover 400 cities in France and some overseas regions.
Jin gets busy after his return from the military
Since his discharge from the military on July 12, BTS' Jin has been busy. He's preparing to release a solo album this year and has finished filming for the MBC variety show The Half-Star Hotel in Lost Island, which will air soon.
On June 12, Jin completed his mandatory service and was warmly welcomed by his BTS bandmates J-Hope, Jimin, Jungkook, V, and RM at a military base in Yeoncheon, South Korea. Later that day, the band celebrated Jin’s return and shared a photo of their reunion on social media. The picture showed the members with balloons in the background that read “Jin is back,” and was captioned, “I’m home.”
Another feather in Jin's hat
While carrying the Olympic flame in Paris marks a new milestone, it's certainly not Jin's first achievement. The BTS member has already smashed records by becoming the first Korean solo artist to sell out London's O2 Arena, and his solo single Epiphany has racked up an astonishing 100 million streams on Spotify in just 10 months.
Jin has also bagged prestigious awards like the Melon Music Award and the Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Male Artist. On top of that, he's shown his compassionate side by donating a whopping 100 million won to the Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
