Meet Abhay Verma, the actor who played a transgender in Safed

In the recently released OTT movie Safed, actor Abhay Verma can be seen playing a transgender character. The film, directed by Sandeep Singh, features Abhay as a eunuch who finds comfort in a platonic bond with widow who too is struggling to deal with the world’s rejection at large of her existence. While this is a big leap for a young actor like Abhay Verma, it’s not the first time the actor is under limelight.

Abhay Verma shot to fame with The Family Man

Abhay Verma began her acting career with a small role in the popular urban rom-com series Little Things. However, Abhay Verma’s big shot to fame came with the popular OTT series The Family Man, directed by filmmaker Raj-DK. While Manoj Bajpayee headlined the show, Abhay Verma played a crucial part in the second season, essaying the role of Salman, a terrorist sleeper cell agent who takes up the identity of another boy named Kalyan to lure Srikant’s (Manoj Bajpayee) daughter and eventually kill her. Abhay Verma’s performance as the deceptively sweet-looking Kalyan was appreciated a lot, amidst such a powerhouse ensemble cast.

Additionally, Abhay Verma has also worked in several TV commercials and music videos, sharing screen with the likes of Sonu Nigam, and Sanjana Sanghi among others.

Besides Abhay Verma, Safed also stars Meera Chopra in a pivotal role. Additionally, the film features notable actors like Barkha Bisht, Jameel Khan in prominent parts. Safed also marks the directorial debut for producer Sandeep Singh who has earlier produced major films like Mary Kom, Bhoomi, and Sarbjit. Singh is also producing the upcoming Atal Bihari Bajpayee biopic titled Main Atal Hoon. 

Now with Safed out on a streaming platform and Abhay Verma receiving rare reviews for his performance, we can look forward to the actor in many more projects. Among Abhay Verma’s upcoming films is Ae Watan Mere Watan, the Sara Ali Khan-starrer period drama set against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle against the British.
