The makers of Dhruva Natchathiram released their official trailer this evening. The upcoming action thriller, starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead, will hit the theatres next month.

Jailer-fame Vinayakan returns as antagonist, in Dhruva Natchathiram

The trailer of Dhruva Natchathiram is cut to relentless, peppy music in a very snappy, slick fashion. The film introduces a team of covert undercover officers who have full freedom to operate on their conditions. The task force has been anointed to curtail the onslaught of terrorism both on national and global level. After a brief introduction of the entire team, the trailer stylishly introduces Vikram’s character as the team leader, the captain so to speak.

Ritu Verma too makes a brief appearance in the trailer. The actress plays one of the covert officers part of Vikram’s team, and seemingly Vikram’s love interest as well. Additionally, Vinayakan, the actor who gained a lot of acclaim for his antagonist role in Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer, is playing a key role in Dhruva Natchathiram.  Director Gautham Vasudev Menon himself plays a prominent part in the film.

Dhruva Natchathiram was first announced in 2013

Dhruva Natchathiram is a spy thriller that is sprawled over two instalments - the first part is given the prefix  ‘Yuddh Kaandam.’

The film had long been in making. The film was initially announced with Suriya in 2013, but Menon shelved the project a few months after the announcement citing creative differences with the actor. He later hinted a chance of possible revival during mid-2015, before finalising Vikram in the lead role. The film, which began production in 2016 and was shot in seven countries, languished in production hell for years owing to Menon's financial constraints, before concluding in February 2023.

Vikram was recently seen in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan I, where he held his own amongst a monumental ensemble cast that consisted of Karthi, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi. Meanwhile, Menon’s last directorial Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, starring Silambarasan, had released last year. Gautham Vasudev Menon is one of the significant filmmakers of Tamil Cinema in the last 20 years, having directed films like Minnale, Kaakha Kaakha, Vaaranam Aayiram.

Dhruva Natchathiram is slated to release on November 24.
