DYK Kamal Haasan Was 'Not Willing' To Do Indian In 1996, Reveals He Hiked His Fee To Avoid The Film
Filmmaker S Shankar was so bent on taking Kamal Haasan in the 1996 movie that the actor had to hike his fee hoping that the director would back out.
Kamal Haasan has kicked off the promotion of his next highly anticipated movie Indian 2 with the trailer launch. Helmed by S Shankar, the movie is a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster movie Indian. During the trailer launch, the veteran actor confessed that he didn't want to be a part of Indian. However, Shankar was bent on taking him so Kamal Haasan hiked his fee hoping that the director would back out. However, he was taken by surprise when the producers met his fee expectations.
Why Kamal Haasan didn't want to be part of Indian?
While praising Shankar and opening up about his upcoming movie, Kamal Haasan shared that he was "not too willing" to do the movie in the first place. The veteran star reasoned that he had another offer with him which was very similar. "Actors have this problem, they want to do this movie and not the other movie, I had that problem too. But he never budged," the actor continued. So he raised his fee but the producer still needs to move. Shankar was very confident like a very seasoned director, which surprised him a lot. He had said that if he made a movie, it would be with him only.
The 1996 movie Indian, co-starring Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar and Sukanya, follows the story of a retired freedom fighter who rebels against corruption in India, which puts him in conflict with his son who lives by corruption. On its release, the movie was a blockbuster hit and became the highest-grossing Tamil movie.
What do we know about Indian 2?
Now 23 years later, Shankar and Kamal Haasan are returning with the sequel which will mark the return of Senapathy. During the launch, the duo confirmed that Indian 2 is connected with the first film. The movie also stars Siddharth, Rahul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha and Priya Bhavani Shankar in pivotal roles. The director has also used CGI and body doubles to bring departed stars Vivek and Nedumudi Venu to life on the big screen in the movie. Indian 2 is set to release on July 12. The film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira.
