Filmmaker S Shankar addressed the long-standing debate about Anirudh Ravichander replacing legendary composer AR Rahman in Kamal Haasan starrer Indian 2.
Filmmaker S Shankar is gearing up for the release of Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan and Siddharth, in the lead roles. Since the movie was announced, fans have been eagerly waiting for it to hit the theatres. However, there was another reason why the movie created a heavy buzz on the Internet - Anirudh Ravichander replacing legendary AR Rahman. Now addressing this, S Shankar revealed why he chose Anirudh over AR Rahman for the sequel.
I didn’t want to overburden AR Rahman: S Shankar
In a recent media interaction, S Shankar opened up about not signing AR Rahman, who has chartbuster songs in the original Indian (1996). The filmmaker told the media that he wanted to work with Oscar-winning composed, but he was already working on the BGM of 2.0 and he needed the songs soon. So he didn't want to overburden Rahman and signed Anirudh.
“I didn’t want to overburden him with Indian 2 and I also liked Anirudh’s music. His music was really popular and I thought why not sign him on," S Shankar said. As always Anirudh has outperformed and is garnering praise from the audience after the release of Indian 2 songs.
When Anirudh Ravichander opened up about replacing AR Rahman
During the grand music launch in Chennai last month, Anirudh addressed the viral topic. The composer was asked about taking over Rahman's role in Indian 2, to this, he humorously referred to Rajinikanth's dialogue from the movie Sivaji: The Boss, "After six, comes seven... but who comes after Rahman sir?" He added, "I know the expectations are high given how the sequel comes 28 years after the first film. Rahman sir’s music inspires me.”
