Dev Anand: New-age actors who can portray the legend's iconic roles

The evergreen actor Dev Anand, spent nearly six decades in Hindi cinema spreading his magic of talent, and stellar performances. The actor was born on September 26, 1923, in a middle-class family in Gurdaspur, Punjab. Dev Anand's real name was Dharmadev Pishorimal Anand. In 1942, Dev Anand completed his graduation in English literature in Lahore. He came to Mumbai in 1943 to fulfill his dream.

Dev Anand got his first break as an actor in the film Hum Ek Hai which tanked at the box office in 1946. Then in 1948, Ziddi proved to be his first hit. In 1949, he established the Navketan Banner and in the year 1950 produced Afsar which was directed by his elder brother Chetan Anand. In 1951, his next film under his banner Baaji was directed by his friend Guru Dutt that proved beneficial for him.
He came to Mumbai in search of work and started working in the Military Censor Office. He soon got a chance to work in Prabhat Talkies, for the movie Hum Ek Hain. While shooting in Puna, he befriended the superstar of that time, Guru Dutt. After a lot of struggle, he got a big break in the movie by Ashok Kumar. He also bagged the lead role in Bombay Talkies produced the film Ziddi and he starred opposite Kamini Kaushal. The movie released in 1949 and was successful too.
After this Dev Anand played some negative roles. When Raj Kapoor's Awara released, at the same time Dev Anand's Rahi and Aandhiyaan also released. This was followed by his iconic movie Taxi Driver, which also did good at the box office. He was starred opposite Kalpana Karthik. Later, she married Dev Saheb and got blessed with a son in 1956, named Sunil Anand.
