'Atheist' SS Rajamouli Opens Up About Wife's Terrible Road Accident: I Didn't Pray To God

SS Rajamouli recounted how when he was shooting for Ram Charan's Magadheera, he and his wife Rama were involved in a bad road accident at a remote location.

SS Rajamuoli, a few years back, revealed that he is an atheist. His comment raised eyebrows given how his movies are heavily influenced by mythology. In the documentary, Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli, the Baahubali director touched upon his personal beliefs and faith and how they do not change even as he encountered personal tragedies.

Rajamouli says karma yoga is his way of life

SS Rajamouli recounted how when he was shooting for Ram Charan starrer Magadheera, he and his wife Rama Rajamouli were involved in a bad road accident at a remote location. The RRR director shared how he froze and was crying at the moment, calling up every doctor he knew as his wife bled profusely and was paralysed in her lower back from shock.

"The nearest hospital was 60 kms away. I was absolutely terrified. At the back of my mind a thought erupted, 'Am I praying to god to help me?' But I didn't do that. I just frantically cried and kept calling doctors and kept doing what needed to be done. I think at some point I chose karma yoga as my way of life. My work is my god. I have huge respect for cinema."

No friction in the family due to Rajamouli's beliefs: V Vijayendra Prasad

SS Rajamouli's father said that his son's religious beliefs or lack of it do not cause friction in the family which is heavily spiritually inclined. "For a person practicing atheism, there should be a high moral fiber in them. I have high respect for such a person," V Vijayendra Prasad said in the documentary Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli.

Furthermore, Prasad also revealed in the film how his son has helped him better his craft as a story writer. He recalled SS Rajamouli reminding him time-to-time that the old days of filmmaking are gone and audiences now expect newer ways of storytelling. "He has helped me sharpen my craft," Prasad said about Rajamouli.
