Kamal Haasan's film Indian 2 was released on 12th July and performed poorly at the box office. This sequel to the 1996 hit Tamil movie Indian, featured the story of a retired freedom fighter battling corruption in India. It underperformed in theatres and was criticised for its weak storyline. Recently, actress Priya Bhavani Shankar spoke out about the backlash she faced after the film’s disappointing reception.

In a conversation with Galatta Plus, Priya Bhavani Shankar admitted that the harsh criticism and online bullying affected her significantly, but she remained resolute in defending her decision to participate in the film. She made it clear that predicting a film's success or failure is challenging and it is unfair to place all the responsibility on a single individual.

She explained that between signing on for Indian 2 and its release, she received many offers, as it was the first major film she had committed to in her career. While Kadaikutty Singam was a major success, she was new to the film industry at the time. She expressed her gratitude to director Pandiraj for offering her the role.

She expressed her willingness to apologise to the audience for any dissatisfaction.
