Kalki 2898 AD Box Office Manipulated? Makers Of Prabhas' Film Take Legal Action Against Distributors

Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898 AD is one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024 in India grossing over ₹1000 crore worldwide. The movie became the third highest-grossing film in domestic markets. However, it seems the producers are not happy with US-Europe distributors. Vyjayanthi Movies has accused them of falsing box office collections and withholding payments.

Vyjayanthi Movies angry with US-Europe distributors over Kalki 2898 AD's overseas box office collection

An email from Vyjayanthi Movies to the overseas distributors leaked on X, in which they are threatening legal action against them if they fail to set the payments within 48 hours. Upon seeing it circulating on social media platforms, the producers confirmed its authenticity and opened up about the ongoing conflict.

According to the Kalki 2898 AD producers, the overseas trackers reported that the film earned around ₹10.8 crore in Europe but claimed that the film failed to meet expectations, asserting it made only ₹3 crore, lower than the advance payment of ₹5 crore.

In the US and Canada, the distributors quoted different earnings and claimed of awaiting ₹3 crore from other regions. However, the producers have learned that they are also withholding ₹2 crore.

Kalki 2898 AD producers issue statement

"The US and Europe distributors are the same; they have cheated the producers. The film made $1.3 million in the region (Europe), according to trackers. They have given the producers ₹5 crore advance and are now claiming it has not made even that and made only ₹3 crore. The producers plan to proceed legally now because they’re left with no other choice. The distributors haven’t even responded to the mail and have leaked it instead. The producers will wait for a response before proceeding with legal action.”
