Kalki 2898 AD Director Nag Ashwin Talks About 'Shortcomings': So Much Room To Improve

Director Nag Ashwin is currently basking in the success of his recently release sci-fi thriller Kalki 2898 AD. The movie has globally earned Rs 555 crore in the opening weekend and is likely to enter the Rs 1000 crore club by the end of the week. In India (all languages) the movie has earned over Rs 300 crore in just four days. Seeing the trend, Nag Ashwin penned a long heartfelt note on his social media handle reflecting on his journey so far.

Taking to his Instagram handle, he shared a photo in which he can be seen happily posing for the camera with his wife Priyanka Dutt and sister-in-law Swapna Dutt standing beside him. In the caption, he penned a note recalling how the three of them began their journey in the entertainment world with their debut movie Yevade Subramanyam, starring Nani and Malvika Nair. "Around 10 years ago, the three of us began our debut feature film "Yevade" together... Vyjayanti was at a low and this film was a risky one...I remember a day of shoot with 20 extras and it rained...we couldn't finish and meant we had to come back and setup again...that extra cost was unaccounted for and made us break down and panic," he added.

Nag Ashwin served as an Assistant Director, before making his big debut as a director with Yevade Subramanyam, which was produced by the Dutt sisters - Priyanka and Swapna - trio's first project together.

In the same post, he said that 10 years later, every movie the trio did together is not just successful at the box office but a small milestone in film history, in its own way. "I feel proud and blessed to stand between these two...and be part of the impossible things we are pulling off... There are shortcomings... there is so much room to improve... And we shall. For now, just Gratitude," the director concluded.

Nag Ashwin has so far directed four movies, such as Yevade Subramanyam, Mahanati, Jathi Ratnalu and his recent Kalki 2898 AD. His recent film will have two more parts with the second part eyeing a 2027 release date.
