Ahmedabad COVID-19 cases up by 327 to 16,967; death toll 1,210

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad rose by 327 to 16,967 on Monday while the fatalities mounted by 23 to 1,210 in the district, state Health department said.

Areas under Ahmedabad district panchayat reported 34 new cases, taking the total number of cases to 605 out of which 390, or 64 per cent have been discharged. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has said that over 50 per cent of the total active cases in the city are under treatment at designated private hospitals.
"The civic body is bearing the full treatment cost of patients whom it has referred to these hospitals," it said. As per the website of the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association, the civic body has requisitioned 912 beds in 45 private hospitals of which 723 beds are occupied as on Monday evening. Out of 59 ICUs in these hospitals, 50 are already occupied and only nine are currently available for patients.
