What is more exhausting than 'climbing Mt. Everest'? Here's Mumbai Police's answer
The Mumbai police too seem to have had enough with the parking troubles. Taking to Twitter the department complained about the enormity of dealing with incorrectly parked cars, advising citizens to park responsibly.
Do you know why many Mumbaikars travel by public transport?
Saves time. Obviously. But mainly to avoid the stress of finding a parking space in the ultra-crowded city.
The Mumbai police too seem to have had enough with the parking troubles. Taking to Twitter the department complained about the enormity of dealing with incorrectly parked cars, advising citizens to park responsibly.
Interestingly, police feel 'climbing Mt. Everest' barely exhausted an individual as compared to towing incorrectly parked cars.
With the increase in the number of cars on the street, the number of cars towed due to parking in restricted zones seems to have increased. Data has revealed that, in the first three months of 2019, traffic police have towed more than 1,100 vehicles across the city. To help out the Mumbai police in solving the incorrectly parked car menace, here are a few guidelines:
When is a parked vehicle towed?
According to the Mumbai Traffic police website, a vehicle which is abandoned or left unattended or is parked in a restricted zone or if the parking of the vehicle is causing inconvenience to the road user(s), then it can be towed. The vehicle can be collected by showing the license and all the documents after paying the penalty.
Amendment in the towing rules
Since 2017, towing rules have been amended stating if the driver of a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone reaches the spot before it is towed away, he will only have to pay the fine. But if the vehicle is towed away and the driver intercepts it on the way, he can reclaim his vehicle only after paying the fine and the towing charges.
This move was done to bring down the 'exhaustion level' of the police and cut the inconvenience caused to the motorists.
While some have appreciated the #ParkItRight initiative, many Mumbaikars seem that their parking troubles are due to lack of open spaces, constant construction work and illegal encroachment in parts of the city.
