Hours after the Government released a revised draft for the National Education Policy 2019, Shiv Sena's Youth wing (Yuva Sena) president Aaditya Thackrey, on Monday, has tweeted his thoughts on the draft education policy placing his faith on the government to bring about education reforms.
While supporting the present Modi government abilities in bringing about education reforms, he has also hinted his support for regional languages by writing that education with a local blend in each state is imperative for entrepreneurship.
Earlier on Monday, the Centre revised their National Education Policy 2019 (NEP 2019) with no mention of Hindi as a compulsory language in the three-language formula and stating that 'students free to choose any language they want'.
The NEP 2019 released by the Centre is a document 484 pages-long document, in which a sub-section titled 'Implementation of the three-language formula' on page number 83 and 'Flexibility in the three language formula' on page number 84 states that three-language formula would help raise the status of all Indian languages in a 'multilingual country' like India and that the students can change one or more among the three languages in Grade 6 and grade 7.
It has a section on the implementation of the three-language formula in which it states that the three-language formula must be better implemented in certain States, particularly Hindi speaking States; for purposes of national integration, schools in Hindi speaking areas should also offer and teach Indian languages from other parts of India.
But it also specifies the flexibility in the three-language formula stating students who wish to change one or more of the three languages they are studying may do so in Grade 6 or Grade 7, so long as they are able to still demonstrate proficiency in three languages. Additional choices of languages would, therefore, be offered in middle school for this purpose of choice and flexibility.
This decision has been hailed by Oscar-winning singer A R Rahman who took to Twitter to express his gladness on Centre's decision.
