Congress has named Kumari Selja as its State President for Haryana, replacing Ashok Tanwar. The Haryana Legislative Assembly elections will be held in November 2019, for which Sonia Gandhi has appointed Selja as party’s State Chief. Former Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has been appointed as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and also the chairman of the party election committee.
Congress appoints aew State President for Haryana Elections
Kumari Selja has been the Member of Parliament twice for both Sirsa and Ambala in Haryana. BS Hooda demanded Ashok Tanwar be replaced which led Congress to give Selja the position. Hooda had been the CM of Haryana from 2005 to 2014, where Manohar Lal Khattar became the CM in 2014, who was the chairman of BJP's Haryana Election Campaign Committee. Both BJP and Congress have started preparing for the Haryana elections with the goal to secure maximum seats.
Maharashtra Elections 2019
Just like the Haryana elections, the Legislative Assembly elections for Maharashtra are also coming up in October. The current CM of Maharashtra is Devendra Fadnavis from the BJP party since 2014. Congress has named Balasaheb Thorat as the President for Maharashtra elections replacing Ashok Chavan.
BS Hooda Supports Article 370
BS Hooda took the Centre's side and agreed with the abrogation of Article 370. His support came just ahead of the Haryana legislative state elections with him demanding the state unit leader to be replaced. “If the Union government does something right, I appreciate it. When they removed Article 370, a lot of my colleagues opposed it. My party lost its way and is not the Congress that was there before. I will not compromise with anyone when it comes to patriotism and self-respect. On this, I supported Article 370," said Hooda, at the rally.
