EC announces dates for West Bengal and Uttarakhand by-polls

The Election Commission of India has announced that the assembly by-polls for the vacant seats in West Bengal and Uttarakhand assembly will be held on November 25. Uttarakhand has one vacant seat whereas, West Bengal has three vacant seats in their respective assemblies. The last day to file nominations for the assembly by-polls is November 6.
Constituencies with vacant seats
The constituencies that have vacant seats are Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand and Kaliaganj, Karimpur and Kharagpur Sadar in West Bengal. The date for the withdrawal of candidature is within the five days of filing the nominations on November 11. The results of the by-polls will be announced on November 28. The Model Code of Conduct has already come into force in the respective districts, where a part of or the whole Parliamentary constituency is going to vote.
Bihar by-polls
The results of the Bihar by-polls that came out on Thursday, show that the ruling JDU lost three of their seats and only managed to retain one seat from 2015. While RJD won on the two seats, an independent candidate secured one position. On the other hand, BJP lost one of its seats in Kishanganj to AIMIM. Also, Prince Raj of LJP defeated Ashok Ram of the Congress party from Samastipur parliamentary constituency.
Telangana by-polls
The ruling party in Telangana, TRS, also won the by-poll elections in the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency. Led by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, TRS maintained a consistent lead over the opposition during the counting of votes from the first round. The nearest rival being Congress’s N Padmavati Reddy, TRS won the seat by the margin of 43,000 votes. The TRS candidate S Saidi Reddy secured 1,13,095 votes while the Congress candidate polled for 69,737 votes. S Saidi Reddy thanked and credited the leadership of TRS president and Chief Minister KCR for his victory.
