Haryana Polls: BJP MP Sunny Deol delivers 'Ghayal' lines in campaign
BJP MP and actor Sunny Deol from Punjab's Gurdaspur showered a filmy dialogue in his opening remarks to endorse Badli candidate Om Parkash Dhankar
Bharatiya Janata Party MP and actor Sunny Deol from Punjab's Gurdaspur, on Saturday, showered a filmy dialogue in his opening lines to endorse Om Parkash Dhankar, BJP's candidate from the Badli assembly constituency in Haryana. Deol has been touring constituencies to campaign for the BJP in the Assembly elections scheduled on October 21.
Tareek pe tareek for October 21
Speaking to a cheering crowd, Deol delivered his famous dialogue from the 1990 hit movie ‘Ghayal’ to align with his poll message. "Tareek pe tareek, tareek pe tareek, par 21 tareek ko yaad rakhna, Kamal ke phool ka button dabana hai, nahi toh ye 2.5 kg ka haath jab uthta hai toh kya hota hai? Iss bar aapse sirf haath jodhne aaya hoon (remember the date October 21. You have to press the lotus button otherwise when this 2.5 kg hand is raised then you know what happens. This time, I have come to raise my hands in humility).
Sunny Deol also participated in a roadshow beside Dhankar and waved at the fan-filled crowd which was overjoyed and excited to greet him. His fans took selfies with him and some were seen shaking hands with the actor as people in large numbers jostled against each other reach to go near the actor, who was atop an open vehicle. Dhankar is the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare in Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government. It is interesting to note that October 19 also marks his 63rd birthday.
Using 'star power' in campaign
This was however not the first time Deol used his 'star' power to woo voters. He delivered such dialogues on Friday while campaigning for BJP candidate Captain Abhimanyu, who is contesting from Narnaund constituency of Haryana. The BJP has been rallying its star-studded leaders and Bollywood personalities from the likes of Sunny Deol's mother and Mathura MP Hema Malini in Panipat in Haryana and actor Govinda in Maharashtra's Malkapur assembly constituency for a BJP candidate.
Hema Malini, in a speech during the election campaign in Haryana, reassured the people that the country is in the “safe hands” with PM Modi. During one of her addresses on Friday, she was seen heaping praises for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hema Malini addressed poll rallies in Palwal and Mahendergarh and held a roadshow in Punhana at the Mewat region in the evening.
Several pictures and videos surfaced on social media of Govinda from a BJP rally in Malkapur on Saturday. Scores of people gathered in the area to catch a glimpse of the veteran actor as he joined Sancheti on top of the campaign vehicle as the bands played music.
