Maharashtra elections: Ajaz Khan receives lesser votes than NOTA
As the results of the Maharashtra polls were announced on Thursday, Ajaz Khan lost in his first election. He received lesser votes than even NOTA in Byculla.

Many celebrities have made a successful transition from the world of entertainment to politics. However, that wasn’t the case for Ajaz Khan, at least in his first innings. The actor performed poorly in his first stint with politics, as he managed to win just over 2000 votes in the Byculla constituency in Mumbai in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The tally was even lesser than the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
Ajaz Khan, who contested as an Independent, managed to poll only 2173 votes in the Byculla constituency, which translated to 1.74 percent of the votes. The seat has been won by the Yamini Yashwant Jadhav of the Shiv Sena, who received 51,114 votes. Jadhav beat Waris Pathan of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), who got 31149 votes. The third candidate in terms of the number of votes was Congress’ Anna Chavan. The Akhil Bhartiya Sena’s Geeta Ajay Gawli got the fourth-most votes. Fifth-most votes was not received by a candidate, but for the NOTA option which got 2789 votes and 2.24 per cent vote share. Ajaz Khan was fifth on the list in terms of votes.

Ajaz Khan on October 5 had announced that he was contesting for the Maharashtra Assembly electtions. Sharing a snap of his application on the election website, he had written, "Today Final Scrutiny of Nomination Papers of Candidates of Byculla Constituency.. MLA Ajaz Khan will Contest from Byculla Now..!! #IndependentCandidate #MaharashtraElection2019. (sic)."
Ajaz Khan contested with the Gas Cylinder symbol for the elections. During the campaigning process, Ajaz Khan addressed the citizens of Byculla in multiple events. He also held an #AskAjaz session. During one of the sessions, he had anwered to one of the questions, “Aazaad Insaan Hu Aazaadi Pasand Hai Toh Socha Aazaad He Election Ladh Lunga Public ka Pyaar Bohot Milra Hai Alhamdulillah Bas Election Jeet jaou #AskAjaz."The actor also shared that the party Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) had expressed their support to his candidature.

Ajaz Khan is known for his stint on Bigg Boss 7. The actor is also known for his controversies, having been arrested recently for his inflammatory video on TikTok, and he is out on bail. Previously, he has fallen in trouble with the law for physical and sexual assault and drug possession. Meanwhile, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is all set to form the government in Maharashtra again, with 158 seats set to be won by the alliance, much more than the halfway mark out of the 288 seats, needed to form the government.
