Continuing its winning streak, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday wrested Tripura, the last Left bastion, and received invitation to be part of the government in Nagaland, while Meghalaya elected a hung Assembly.

The BJP, which was hitherto a marginal player in Tripura politics, having failed to clinch even a single seat in the state in the last polls, has already won a majority on its own, pocketing 32 seats in the 60-member Assembly.

Here are 5 best quotes on BJP’s stunning show in North East:

1. PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called the BJP's impressive performance in Tripura Assembly polls people's answer to "fear, lies and confusion" being spread against his government, and targeted the Congress, saying it was never so diminished as a party as it is now.

"Congress was never as diminished as it is now; there are leaders whose designation rises while their stature shrinks," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

2.  BJP President Amit Shah

Tearing into the Left, BJP President Amit Shah spared a thought for the families of  BJP ‘karyakartas’ who had been "martyred", he said, in Left-related incidents.

"Left isn't right for any part of India", said Amit Shah.

3. Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Outgoing Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar can take shelter in West Bengal, Kerala or neighbouring Bangladesh as the BJP is going to form the next government in the state, Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.

“Manik Sarkar has just three options before him. He can go to West Bengal, where the CPI-M still has some presence. He can go to Kerala, where the party is in power and will rule for three more years or he can go to neighbouring Bangladesh," Sarma said.

 4. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

Republic TV spoke to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Calling it a tectonic shift, Prasad said:

“Now Left is left only in Kerala. It is trying with the Congress in West Bengal. It has been wiped out in Tripura.”

5. Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS PMO and (I/C) for Development of North Eastern Region

Republic TV spoke to Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS PMO and (I/C) for Development of North Eastern Region after the Left was wiped out in Tripura.

“This is an end of the politics of appeasement and the end of winning elections by creating false illusions of BJP,” said Jitendra Singh.
