Amidst the ongoing counting of votes for the Haryana Assembly elections, State Congress Chief Kumari Selja said Haryana is ready to embrace a new dawn of "justice and equality" under the leadership of the Haryana Congress. "Haryana has given the verdict- it will not tolerate Haryana BJP's misgovernance any more. Choosing to leave behind the maladies inflicted on its people in the last 5 years, the state is ready to embrace a new dawn of justice and equality under the leadership of Haryana Congress", Selja tweeted on Thursday, October 24.
Kumari Selja met party senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel in Delhi, earlier today to discuss the poll situation. As per the official trends released by the Election Commission, Bharatiya Janata Party is leading with 39 seats in Haryana, followed by Congress on 31 and Jannayak Janata Party on 10. The INLD is ahead in only one seat while independents and other party candidates are at eight.
Hooda leading charge for new government
Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in a press conference said the Congress and other parties and independents who fought against the Bharatiya Janata Party should come together and form a government in the state. Hooda also took a jibe at the Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in Haryana and proclaimed that the verdict displays the government's failure. He was addressing the press at a time when both BJP's and Congress' trends showed them falling short of the halfway mark.
"The BJP was talking of the target of 75 seats, but it is hardly passing 30-35. First of all, I would like to thank the people. The mandate is against the BJP and in favour of opposition parties, whether its the Congress, JJP, INLD or independents. I tell them all, it is time all of them come together and form a stable government. I, as chairman of the (Congress's election) management committee, assure everyone that they will be given respect and position and we will form the government," said the veteran Congressman with his son Deepender sitting beside him.
Coalition rush
Sources indicate that all the legislators of Congress would fly to Delhi. Reportedly, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has given the green signal to Hooda to initiate talks with the JJP and the Independents. Already, Hooda has allegedly reached out to JJP chief Dushyant Chautala. There were rumours that Congress was contemplating offering the CM’s position to Chautala. However, the latter denied the reports and clarified that he would take a final decision on this matter only after the declaration of the final results.
