88 new COVID-19 cases in Assam, tally climbs to 6,370
Assam reported 88 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 6,370 in the state, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.

There are 2,400 active cases in the state, while 3,958 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the disease, he said.
Nine persons have died due to COVID-19 so far and three patients migrated out of the state, the minister said.

Among the 88 new cases, 23 are from Kamrup, 20 Sonitpur, 10 from Tinsukia, eight from Baksa, seven from Karimganj, five from Dibrugarh, four from Dhubri, three each from Kokrajhar and Kamrup (Rural), two each from Bishwanath and Nalbari and one from Dhemaji, he said.
Meanwhile, 196 more patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday night after testing negative for COVID-19, taking the total number of discharged persons to 3,958, the minister said.
The recovery rate remains at 63 per cent, he added.
A total of 3,36,091 samples have been tested for coronavirus in the state so far, Sarma said.
"It is this policy of aggressive testing and tracing that has kept us in control of things and I must express my gratitude to all for the spirited support. Determined to defeat Corona", the minister tweeted.
Among the positive patients is an undertrial prisoner from Dhubri Jail who was booked in connection with a road accident in which a woman succumbed to injuries recently at a hospital, an official said.
The prisoner, too, was injured and taken to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (FAAMCH) where his swab samples were taken and the report came out as positive.
This is the second case of an undertrial testing positive for the virus in the state with the first being a prisoner of Guwahati Central Jail.
To flatten the curve of COVID-19 in Guwahati, the minister said COVID counselling centres in each and every ward of Guwahati Municipal Corporation have been activated and urged people to come forward for voluntary testing.
"We have activated all 31 Covid Counselling Centres in each and every ward of Guwahati Municipal Corporation. I urge citizen of Guwahati to use these facilities and come forward for voluntary testing for #Covid_19", Sarma tweeted.
