Months after he had publically assaulted a government officer with a cricket bat, BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh Akash Vijayvargiya on Monday raked up controversy during a protest against alleged discrepancy in electricity bills, with his remarks that BJP workers "do not roam about empty-handed".
Speaking at a protest demonstration against farmer issues and alleged discrepancy in electricity bills, the MLA threatened the officials of the electricity department over the bills. "We do not roam around empty-handed so they (officials) should understand what will happen to them," said Akash, the son of BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.
He alleged that several cases of discrepancies have been reported in the calculation of electricity bills and asked the government to fix the problem at the earliest. "People are getting inflated bills. Some people told me that they received Rs 6,000 to Rs 40,000 bill for electricity. We warn and demand that the government either write off the bills or lower the rates," he added. He also demanded that the farmers affected by unseasonal rain should be given compensation by the Congress government.
Akash Vijayavargiya's beat civic officials
In June this year, Akash Vijayavargiya was caught on camera thrashing civic officials in Indore when they were on an anti-encroachment drive. The local MLA was seen hitting the officials with a cricket bat, slapping and kicking them along with other BJP workers who joined in the attack and in addition, verbally abused the officials. Akash was arrested by the police and was remanded for two days, with the court denying him bail in the case before being released on June 30. Akash was given a grand welcome as he was released and visuals showed sweets being distributed to people at the leader's residence. After his release from the jail, he said that he will lead the path on the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and will try his best that to ensure that justice is done to every family in his constituency.
