Akshay Kumar mourns the death of Former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, says, 'she effectively changed the face of Delhi'

The 81-year old Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee passed away on Saturday. She died while undergoing a heart surgery in Fortis Hospital.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar took to his Twitter handle to convey his condolences on the demise of former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit.

Akshay said that Dikshit effectively changed the face of Delhi in her 15 years tenure from 1998. Read the tweet below -

Princess Diya Kumari of The Royal Family of Jaipur also expressed her grief over Sheila Dikshit's demise.

The 81-year-old was appointed as the president of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee earlier this year, in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Sheila Dixit's passing away

Dixit passed away due to ailments related to old age. She was born on 31 March 1938 and was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi, serving for a period of 15 years from 1998 to 2013. Sources also informed that she breathed her last at 03:30 PM.

Sheila Dixit's political career in a nutshell

Dikshit had led the Congress party to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi. In the December 2013 elections to the Delhi Legislative Assembly, She was defeated in New Delhi constituency by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, who replaced her as Delhi's chief minister. Subsequently, she was sworn in as Governor of Kerala on 11 March 2014. The Congress party fought the recent Lok Sabha elections
